What is the best credit card to apply for when trying to build a good credit?

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

I’ve had a secure credit card for over a year now and I’d like to apply for a normal one now. I’m building my credit and would like one without an annual fee and with good benefits like air miles etc. What should I apply for? Thanks!!!

After a 12 month activity, your credit score should be going up. It usually goes up between 5 to 10% per month. For airline mileage , you have to apply at one of the airlines where they have their own Visa or MasterCard.

How long does it take for Visa to apply credit back to card on returned merchandise?

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Returned item, merchant issued credit 10 days ago but card company has not applied credit to card

It will usually show up on your next bill, depending upon when in the cycle, the merchandise was returned. Call VISA and see if they have made the change.

what is a good credit card to apply for to start off my credit?

Monday, July 5th, 2010

i currently have no credit so everytime i apply for a card i get denied. Besides Capital One what are some other good credit card companies i can apply at to start off my credit?
lookin for a card i will most likely be approved for.

thx!

The best way to get your credit started is to put $500 or $1000 in a savings account and get a "fully secured loan" from the bank. Your savings account is the collateral. Do this once or twice and you will start a credit rating. Credit cards are a horrible way to begin your credit rating. You don’t learn to handle finances responsibly with a credit card, the interest is too high, payments are too low, and it’s too easy to get in "over your head". If you have any type of "unexpected" financial issues you can pay the loan off with your savings account with no negative credit affects. With a credit card, the first month you can’t pay the whole balance is the beginning of a downward spiral….just read the questions on this site to see how many people are in trouble with the amount of money the owe. You should never have more payments than you can cover for 6 months without an income. (if your bills are $1000 per month, you should have $6000 in savings, bonds, Cd’s or other no risk investment).

Can i apply for a credit card without a bank account?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Okay i am 18 and want a credit card but i dont have a bank account i was wondering if i can apply for a card under my name and than pay it through my dads bank account i want to be able to build my score.

YES you can. I have a Mint Credit card, that has NOTHING to do with my bank account and you don’t need a bank account to pay for the credit card either. You can pay them by going into the post office with the payment slip.

It is probably best if you open up a bank account now anyway as you will need that to be paid from work or anything else so do that now, but you can have a credit card with anyone you want and doesn’t have to be with your bank or even linked!

Apply PNC bank of credit card, now I have trouble with credit card?

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

My husband and I were to apply the credit card by PNC bank from last week and now we got the mail saying they couldn’t unable to approve our application at this time for one or more of the following reason was no credit file (no credit files on both parties and insufficient number of credit references provided)… Now what do? We really want to have credit card but I don’t know where else we can apply credit card? Please help because we are trying buy a house with credit card.

Thanks

Obviously your credit is not in a position to were you would get enough available credit limit to purchase a house with a credit card. But you may want to build up your credit with maybe a department store card or positive cell phone payments or something like that. It’s not likely that you will get what you are trying to do unless you build more credit. But even if you had the card or get a card later please don’t try to buy a house with a credit card.

What Provider would be best to chose? I am wanting to apply for Visa Credit Card?

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

It states "Select a card provider to visit its Web site and apply for a card".
I have never applied for a credit card before, but am needing one now! This is the website that has the different provider’s. Can Anyone with experience in choosing a good Provider or just know of a good provider, please refer one to me? Thanks Here is the website I have to choose from.

http://usa.visa.com/personal/cards/credit/apply_standard_credit_cards.jsp

I have every major provider… Chase, Capital One, Citi, American Express, Discover, etc.

I’d have to say the best bank to get a VISA from is Bank of America. They have great business ethics. Just always pay your bill on time and there will be no problems.

If I pay my debts, Can i apply for credit card and loan again?

Monday, June 7th, 2010

I have debts for credit card and previous landlord that ruined my credit and I cant get any credit card or car loan ? If I paid this off, how long will it erase this negative credit on my credit score so i can apply for car loan or credit card again.

Negative credit usually stays on your bureau reports for 7 years, unless you were sued and have a judgment entered against you, which I believe stays on your credit for 10 years. There are 2 important things to do in order to make yourself credit-worthy again. The first is make sure that you do not have any overdue debt, and that everything that may have been in collections is paid off. That sort of clears the board for you. The second is to rebuild. You should really worry about your debt to income ratio. That means you must live within your means. Any credit card balances should be well below their limit. Getting a secured credit card to establish a payment pattern is good, but if you constantly carry the maximum balance, that is a huge red flag that you are not yet ready to handle a larger debt. A really awesome thing to do is to charge something nominal once a month or so, then immediately pay it off.

You would be amazed at how quickly such good behavior will raise your credit score and your status with lenders. In 2 years, maybe less, you could probably get a secured loan (like a car loan). In three or so, you will probably be able to qualify for a decent unsecured credit card.

Two other things to think about: 1) Avoid job-jumping. A consistent employment history looks very good for you. 2) Save money. Put away as much as you can in a separate savings account. It will accrue interest and will convey your intention to be more responsible in the future.

What would happen If I apply a credit card and I do not use it at all?

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

For example, I see Amazon.com now is offering a $30 cash back when I first apply it.
However, I have 1 visa card already, I only wanted apply it for that $30 benefit.
If I apply it and I do not use in the future, would it affect my credit score or any other things at all?
(Does this answer applys to all the credit card?)

You get a credit ding for the hard pull they do to check your credit. This wears off after about 6 months.

You get a credit ding of an unknown amount because the new credit card lowers the average age of your open credit lines. This may or may not be important, depending on the age of your other credit.

Extra credit lines are alleged to help your credit score by increasing your available credit, which if you’re carrying a balance will decrease your percent utilization. However, having too much available credit can spook lenders.

If you leave the account unused it will be closed by the issuer. Having a credit line marked closed by the credit issuer on your credit report reportedly damages your credit rating (it may not factor into your score, but might alarm lenders reading through your credit report, since often credit lines are closed by the issuer due to payment problems). However, sometimes they close the account but report it closed according to customer request. This should not adversely affect your score unless you’re carrying balances, thus increasing your credit utilization, or the credit line that got closed was one of your older ones, decreasing your average credit line age.

If you’re not planning on making any major purchases (car, house) in the next 6 months to 1 year it probably won’t do any harm to open the account. You can always keep it active by buying a gift a couple times a year, so the account won’t get closed and will age and benefit your credit score. You can buy all sorts of stuff off Amazon now.

Of course double check to make sure there are no fees, those may end up making it not worth the bother.
